The Alpen Weisshorn 280 is an 80cm lopper with long aluminium handles for cutting branches that are too thick for secateurs. The extra length gives more leverage and lets you reach into shrubs, hedges and fruit trees without stretching.

Key features

  • Cuts branches up to 35mm in diameter
  • Blade in Japanese SK5 carbon steel with a non-stick coating
  • Forged carbon steel counter blade
  • Variable radius blade for a more even cut through the branch
  • Aluminium handles with a black powder-coated finish and contoured grips
  • Rubber shock absorbers that cushion the handles as the cut finishes
  • Key spare parts are available from Alpen

Specifications

  • Brand: Alpen
  • Model: Weisshorn 280
  • Length: 800mm
  • Maximum cut: 35mm
  • Weight: about 1.2 to 1.3kg
  • Manufacturer code: WEISSHORN280

How to use

Open the handles fully, place the branch as deep into the jaws as it will go, then close the handles in one steady movement. Cut just above a bud or side branch, and work from the outside of the plant inwards. If a branch needs force, it is too thick for loppers: use a pruning saw instead.

Care

Wipe sap off the blades after use and dry them. A light wipe of oil on the blades and pivot keeps them moving freely and stops rust. Store indoors.

Safety

Wear gloves and keep fingers clear of the blades. Keep the loppers closed when carrying them.
