Measure the post you are replacing, or the height needed from the floor to the handrail plus the length that will be fixed into or beside the stairs. Check that matching handrail and spindles are available in the same style.
Fitting and finishing
Cut to length with a fine saw, fix securely to the stair string and floor so there is no movement, and fit the handrail at the height required by Building Regulations for your stairs. Sand with fine abrasive paper before applying a primer and paint, or a wood stain and varnish.
