Product Overview

Fire Mate Sealant is an intumescent acrylic sealant that swells when exposed to temperatures in excess of 125 degrees to prevent the passage of fire and smoke and has a fire rating of up to 4 hours in certain joint configurations.

How to use it

Applying silicone and sealants

Seal baths, sinks, windows and gaps with a neat, watertight bead.

Step by step

Cut out all the old sealant and clean off the residue.
Clean the joint with white spirit or a sealant remover and let it dry fully.
Fill a bath with water before sealing so it does not pull away later.
Cut the nozzle at an angle, a little smaller than the gap.
Run a steady bead along the joint with even pressure on the gun.
Smooth it with a wet finger or a profiling tool, then peel off any tape.
Leave it to cure for the time on the tube before using water.

Tips

Masking tape either side gives very straight lines.
Use bathroom silicone with mould inhibitor in wet areas.
Expanding foam grows a lot: fill gaps only a third full.

Safety

Wear gloves; some sealants irritate skin.
Ventilate the room while the sealant cures.
