The Hozelock Sensor Controller Plus (model 2214) is a battery-powered water timer that fits on your outside tap and waters automatically at sunrise, sunset or both. Compared with the standard Sensor Controller, it adds a schedule setting so you can water anything from every day to once a week.

How it works

A daylight sensor on the top of the controller detects dawn and dusk and starts watering then, so there is no clock to set. As the days get longer or shorter through the season, the start times move with them automatically. Hozelock point out that watering at sunrise or sunset reduces evaporation and helps prevent leaf scorch.

Fitting

The controller screws straight on to a standard garden tap. Adaptors are supplied for 21mm (1/2" BSP), 26.5mm (3/4" BSP) and 33.3mm (1" BSP) tap threads. It runs on batteries, so no mains wiring is needed. Fit 2 x AA batteries (not included) and place it where the sensor gets natural daylight and is not shaded by plants or walls.

Care

The LED battery indicator lights show when the batteries need changing. Before the first frosts, remove the controller from the tap, take the batteries out and store it indoors.
