The Makita MT Series M1901 is a 500W, 82mm mains planer for smoothing, sizing and chamfering timber. It has cast aluminium tables, a balanced design for comfortable one-handed work and a rubberised handle for grip. Depth is set with a knob, up to 2mm a pass, and it can cut rebates up to 9mm deep. It is double insulated and connects to dust extraction.

Using it
Clamp the work securely. Set a shallow depth, start the planer before it touches the timber and push it steadily with pressure on the front shoe at the start and the rear shoe at the end. Take several light passes rather than one deep one.
Care
Keep the blades sharp and the base clean. Connect a dust extractor or bag to reduce mess.
Safety
Unplug before changing blades or adjusting. Wear eye and hearing protection and a dust mask, and keep hands clear of the underside of the planer.
