How to use it

Dealing with damp and mould

Find the cause, treat the mould and stop it coming back.

Step by step

Work out the cause: condensation, a leak, or rising or penetrating damp.
For condensation, ventilate: open windows, use extractor fans, dry washing outside.
Kill mould with a mould remover, following the label.
Let the surface dry fully.
Use a stain block, then an anti-mould paint if needed.
Fix leaks or damaged pointing before redecorating.

Tips

Moisture traps help in small rooms and wardrobes.
Leave a gap between furniture and outside walls for air flow.
Keep the heating at a steady low level in cold weather.

Safety

Wear gloves, a mask and eye protection when treating mould.
